I liked this book. I started reading others first that were more highly rated & found myself so caught up with the world build that I wanted to read the entire series. I agree there's a lot of juvenile behavior that could have been resolved a bit more readily with the object of their desires simply putting her foot down. I didn't mind it that much. I was annoyed with the repetitive cussing - some originality would have been nice.

I particularly like the higher mix of action scenes & situations than what's typical in the others in the series & in Ms O'Connor's stories in general. The sex situations were believable & entertaining. So far I've enjoyed #2 the best & #3 the least. I'm starting in on #4 next.

Cyberevolution I The Awakening Volume 1 Kaitlyn O'Connor 9781603947497 Books Reviews

The books are a good read - and it might just be me - but sometimes I felt my attention drifting. Towards the end of her books, sometimes there are several stopping points that seem like - this is where the book should end. But it doesn't. I could just be growing spoiled with faster storylines and more thrilling plot twist of other authors but if I'm selecting books, this author would not be one of my first choices. Good story just feels a bit to slow for me.
Great story. This and Total Recall are my favorites so far. This starts out during the war on the ice world and follows Danika and her squad. Danika is human and her squad are awakening cyborgs. Page turner with an engrossing plot. I finished it in one sitting. Highly recommend.
I have been a fan of this author for a couple of years, and didn't realize this series even existed when I had purchased one of the books earlier. Although, I am a bit confused at the sequence of the books in this series (different sites list the books in different sequences)I determined it worth the time to dive right in whether I got the sequence right or not, and boy am I glad I did. this book kept me enthralled through out. I do have the agree with another reviewer that it did end abruptly, but never once was I tempted to fast forward through slow parts, I never found them. I also have to agree that the editing error involving a name change in the last part of the book was a little distracting, I just mentally inserted the correct name.
I laughed and I cried during the reading of this book, and was involved with all the characters. Well worth the time and money. I highly recommnd this book, and now I am off to the next!
The awakening is the first novel of Kaitlyn O'Connor's I have read. I enjoy trying out authors that I haven't read before and I was not disappointed. The novel had me hooked from the get go, in fact I had read the novel straight through and had to buy the next in the series. I am very impressed with O'Connor's world building and character development, So impressed I actually told my husband at dinner this evening how impressed I was and he is not a fellow bibliophile. She mastered the self discovery both Danika's seeing her team as more than teammates and cyborgs but as men that she loved. As well as Seth and the rest of the boys discovery of the world with emotion and what it means to be human and being in love. I loved the fact that that journey of discovery was real and the path to hot sex was built up and not forced. While I am a romance erotic or otherwise addict many times the authors forget the best part of a romance is the journey and jump right into the sex and love part. If you are one to enjoy the journey to love and hot sex then this book will not disappoint. Actually I am so enjoying the series I am already on book 3 and feel the price so far is definitely money well spent.
I'm a big fan of the Cyborg series with "Cyborg Nation" being my favorite followed by "Total Recall." "The Awakening" may be tied now for me with "Total Recall."

As can be expected with this author, great world building. O'Connor does a wonderful job of showing how awkward and naive the cyborgs are when they first become sentient. I really like how the relationship between Danika and her squad builds up before the inevitable sex scenes. You really felt for the characters as they tried to not only carve new lives for themselves but also adjust to their new status.

I didn't think the author could find anything more interesting to write about the Cyborg world, but happily she has proved me wrong. Such great imagination combined with a dash of humor and sweet romance with alpha males.
I enjoyed all of Kaitlyn's Cyborg books, admittedly some more than others. This one I felt was a great prequel to the others. I've often wondered how the series would be edited now, with this foundation to stand on. I have also hoped that Kaitlyn would write the stories of some of the other characters we meet in this instalment. Although I'm not holding my breath.

If you haven't read any of the other books in this series, be warned that there are inconsistencies in the story-lines due to the publishing order of the books. It doesn't necessarily detract from the stories, and they can and do stand on there own, for the most part. They all have a HEA ending, but there is also the ongoing story-line of the cyborgs building there own nation and gaining freedom to live there own lives.

For those who have read some of Kaitlyn's nom de plume titles, the opening scene is almost a cut and paste to another Cyborg multi-partner story. Disappointing, but I guess she liked the scene enough to reuse it, it was fairly evocative, but looses something when read again in a book by a supposedly different author.

I find Kaitlyn's handling of the multi-partner relationships refreshing and often humorous to read. Often authors waste a lot of page to the morality issue of the situation, some to the point that you wonder why they bothered trying to write a menage story in the first place.
