In her candid memoir, steel magnolia Aurelia Dupont Yarbrough shares the dramatic and emotional events of her life, including the private time she spent with Elvis Presley, the Presley family, and those surrounding The King of Rock and Roll. For the first time she reveals an account of her experience the day of his death, along with statements made to her she believes contradict the timeline and other elements not fully investigated. An irrepressible spirit, Aurelia overcame a difficult childhood and early obstacles through her dynamic, fun-loving personality, grit, wit and humor, making her way to Memphis and eventually Hollywood, where she worked and played with celebrities, and still resides.

I have no words for this book... the author repeats herself 100 times. It could be half the length. I'll sum it up for you. She claims she and Elvis fell in love at the end of his life and that he considered her his soulmate. She claims David Stanley (Elvis' stepbrother) and his friend Mark admitted to her they killed Elvis on the day he died approximately 2 hrs or so before anyone knew Elvis was dead. They would later repeat this same claim to her. They would also repeat this claim to others. She would tell Vernon, Elvis' father, about their claims. After this, She allowed David to rent a room from her in her house. David would not pay rent or contribute to the household. But, she would later allow herself to be seduced by David. Yes, the same David who told her he murdered Elvis, the love of her life. She actually slept with this man. She tries to explain this by saying that she just wasn't sure if David was telling the truth. I mean she asked him about his statements later, and he denied killing Elvis. Because, you know, everyone continues to admit to a murder that could potentially get them the death penalty. After that, the authorities in Memphis finally conducted an investigation with court hearings. She was told by those who had been subpoenaed that she should "lay low" or they would want to talk to her too. She concluded in her infinite wisdom this was a "kangaroo court" so never contacted the lawyer, whose name she knew, to tell him what David said to her on the day Elvis died. She ends the book by saying now everyone knows what David and Mark did and the authorities do too- as if the authorities are reading this book. This woman is witness to one of the strongest pieces of information in the Elvis death mystery. David and Mark confessed to her they murdered Elvis before anyone found him dead. She did not contact the police. She did not contact the State/ Attorney General's office. She did not contact Elvis' lawyer. She did not present herself to the court conducting the hearing that eventually happened to communicate this information. She magically thinks this book is going to be efficacious in some way. You would think someone who refers to herself as Elvis' soulmate would have moved Heaven and earth to get this information to the proper authorities. I have read a few things about Elvis and his life. I continue to be shocked at the users, losers, low-life's, criminals and general idiots with whom he surrounded himself. This book adds to my general conclusion that it is a wonder he wasn't murdered sooner. I'm surprised he lived 42 years having suffered the people who congregated around him. She still hasn't figured out she needs to report this to the Memphis police and state attorney general's office. Oh, and by the way...the author believes Elvis has appeared to her at least three times as a white mist. May God bless Elvis' sweet heart and what he had to deal with in his life. "We Just Killed Elvis" What Now My Love? My Presley Puzzle eBook Aurelia Dupont Yarbrough Reviews

Could not put this book down. Highly recommend it.
Really? Aurelia is or was my Aunt. I have not seen or heard from her in over 20 years. I was only able to read a few pages of this but for her to speak the way she did about her own family is a disgrace. My Grandmother may not have been a Saint but her memory or the memory that I have of her did not need to be slandered in the way it was in the 1st few paragraphs. Again, only speaking from what I could read but there is a lot more that happened in the later years. Most of everything I read here is either a lie or a very obscured version of the truth. From my time in the Navy I have learned there are just somethings you don't air out. I am not usually the type of person to hate on or not want people to succeed but I hope that just my words here keep a few people from buying her book!
to be honest, i have not read the book yet, I just found out Aurelia wrote it while doing a google search for my friend as I have not talked to her in a few years. Aurelia was my next door neighbor and my friend while she was here in Memphis. i knew of her relationship with Elvis and with his family. I was in Memphis with her and saw the depth of her love and the depth of her grief. to those who think she was one of the takers, Aurelia, would cut Elvis's hair. I saw checks that he wrote her, she never cashed any. She told him that she didn't want his money. She drove an old car. he used to tell her that He was going to buy her a brand new car, she told him that if he did, she would drive it through the front gates and leave it in the front yard. If you knew Aurelia, she would have too! She never shared with me about the confession, but I do know that David did stay at her house for a while after Elvis died. Aurelia has a commanding, magnetic spirit about her. She was and is my friend. i loved her then and I love her now. Read the book...Aurelia, I'm going to! And if you read this....I'd love to see you or at least talk to you...(Before we get tooo old ) )
Reading this book is like being in the room with Aurelia and Elvis. #ELVIS
This is a truly Southern story, and the author's authentic voice and true heart shines through here. A lot of dramatic things unfold, and her observations are singularly her own. It's clear from the level of detail as well as supporting elements, such as the pictures in the back, that she's sharing a very personal relationship between her and not only Elvis, but the Presley family. In addition, her recollections and contentions regarding the day he died are corroborated in previous books. So I'm not sure what the objections would be to these by other readers, given it's unequivocally the case that law enforcement never conducted a thorough investigation. Sometimes reality is indeed strange, and in this case both warm and tragic.
First let me say, I really don't like giving bad reviews. But I felt an immediate obligation because of the cost of this book and that there were only a couple of highly praised reviews.
Well where to start? The writing style of this book drove me crazy! The author repeats herself over and over and then once or twice more again. Many times I felt annoyed while reading and it was like "ok! I get it!" I feel if the material is well written, then I will feel what the author intends for me to feel while reading it. Apparently this author felt the need to beat me over the head with whatever she was feeling or thinking.
As for content, I didn't find this book to be very believing...sorry. There were too many "stories" that I had already read or heard elsewhere. I think there are areas of the book that either contradict themselves, or just didn't make sense to me.
As an Elvis fan I was hoping this book would give a refreshing insight on Elvis, the person. I didn't get that.
This book actually made me sad to think of it as one more of all the books written by those who "knew" Elvis. Knew how to use HIS friendship and generosity to make money for themselves maybe. This book is definitely overpriced!
